Some other good anime not listed in the fascistic "Favorite Anime" category: Lain, Guu, Nadesico, Chobits (some flaws, but worthwhile), Full Metal Alchemist, Excel Saga (mostly), Cowboy Bebop, most everything by Miyazaki. For starters.

Worst. Episode. Ever.: Episode 95 of Kenshin. It does get some small forgiveness for also being the last episode of Kenshin. Yay.

Book Recommendation: The Hard-Boiled Wonderland at the End of the World, by Haruki Murakami.

When looking for anime I crave quality, novelty, characterization, and story, in roughly equal proportions. Suitable levels of style, well-conceived weirdness, or humor that has advanced beyond fixations on secondary sexual characteristics and bodily functions may allow a partial bypass of those filters.
